Kingsville - Riding back-to-back wins, the Texas A&M - Kingsville women's tennis team is taking on its second top-40-ranked team in a row when it battles with No.33 UT-Tyler at noon in the HEB Tennis Center in Corpus Christi.
After a pair of wins in Florida last week, the Javelinas enter the bulk of their Lone Star Conference play having won six of their last seven matches. Included in those wins is a golden-match win over Sul Ross St. to open up LSC play, with the team's only loss over that stretch coming on the road against No.13 Angelo St.
Over those last seven matches, a number of Javelinas have been swinging red-hot racquets, led by junior
Guadalupe Tocci. Since moving into the No.1 spot, Tocci is 5-1 in both singles and doubles play. Similarly, graduate student
Luna Jokanovic is a perfect 4-0 since taking on the No.2 singles role. The freshman duo of
Annalena Noll and
Andrea Landaeta are 6-1 in doubles play during the Hogs' hot streak, while senior
Manuela Turolo is 5-1 in her doubles matches.Â
Because of forecasted inclement weather, the match, which was originally set to be the team's home opener, will be played in Corpus instead. The change makes TAMUK's 11 a.m. Saturday match against No.23 Dallas Baptist its new home opener, giving Javelina fans their first opportunity to see the team play on the Javelina Tennis Courts since its exhibition match against Texas A&M - Corpus Christi on February 6th.
