Javelinas win back-to-back matches on Saturday, take down Emmanuel, Augusta

Milledgeville, GA - On its second day in Georgia, the Texas A&M - Kingsville women's tennis team beat Emmanuel, 6-1, before taking down Augusta, 4-2, in back-to-back matches.

The wins snap a three-match losing streak in a big way, and lift the Javelinas to .500 on the year.

"My ladies had to be really resilient today," Head Coach Autumn Wollenzien said. "After a disappointing loss yesterday, we as a team had to bounce back stronger and remain focused from start to finish. Neither team today made it easy, so I'm glad that we were able to play well and win."

Kingsville had already been playing a difficult schedule, which included a contest against No.11 Washburn last week, and it only got harder when weather delayed the Javelinas match against August until Saturday, meaning that they would be playing two matches on the same day. Playing in weather that still left much to be desired, TAMUK fought through, losing just four combined matches all day, doubles included.

The day started with a stellar performance against Emmanuel. Kingsville swept the doubles matches, with Guadalupe Tocci and Manuela Turolo winning 6-3, Andrea Landaeta and Annalena Noll winning 6-3, and Luna Jokanovic and Kaitlin Blount winning 6-4. The Javelinas then made quick work of almost every singles match. Playing in the No.1 spot, Tocci won 6-1, 6-3. Jokanovic won 6-2, 6-2 in the two spot, and Noll won 6-1, 6-3 at No.3. While Turolo was Kingsville's only loss in the match, playing in the No.4 and No.5 spots respectively, Landaeta and Andersson Gomez won 7-6, 6-2, and 6-0, 6-1 respectively.

The second match went almost just as well for TAMUK, which is particularly impressive as Augusta brought a three-match win streak into Saturday's matchup. Kingsville split the doubles, with Tocci and Turolo as well as Landaeta and Noll each winning 6-3, while Jokanovic and Blount fell, 2-6.

Singles saw Tocci get another win in the No.1 spot, 2-6, 6-1, 5-4, while Jokanovic won 6-1, 7-5 and Noll won 6-1, 6-3 in the second and third spots respectively. At four, and five, Turolo lost 4-6, 1-6, and Landaeta lost 6-7, 1-6, while Andersson Gomez's match in the sixth spot went to three sets and was not completed as the match ended once Kingsville clinched the win.

The Javelinas will have some time off, not playing again until next Monday, March 3rd, when they will take on Louisiana Christian in Seguin.
