Tennis wins ITA Community Service Challenge

Kingsville - Texas A&M University-Kingsville women's tennis has been selected as a national award winner in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Community Service Challenge, earning distinction among college tennis programs across the country for their outstanding community engagement efforts.

The Javelinas earned recognition after completing more than 10 community service hours and promoting their service activities on social media using the hashtag "#CollegeTennisServes" during the two-month challenge.

"This achievement took time, teamwork, and effort," Head Coach Autumn Wollenzien said. "I am so proud of my entire team for this accomplishment and their great attitudes during each community service event. Community service is something that's important to me and this program because a small act of kindness can truly have a huge impact on our community and the lives around us."

In addition to their win, the Javelinas were also third overall in the national standings on the challenge among all participating programs and was the top-ranked Division II school in the competition. The team will receive a $500 prize in recognition of their efforts and commitment to serving the Kingsville community.

The ITA Community Service Challenge encouraged college tennis programs nationwide to engage with their local communities. The challenge aimed to instill a lifelong commitment to service while showcasing the positive impact student-athletes have beyond the court.

The recognition adds to the growing legacy of community engagement within Javelina Athletics and reinforces the program's commitment to developing well-rounded student-athletes who excel in competition and service.
