Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville athletics Hall of Fame member Earl Dotson was named as a member of the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame the team announced on Monday.
Dotson, inducted into the Javelina Athletics Hall of Fame in 2003, spent his entire NFL career with the Green Bay Packers (1993-2002). Drafted in the third round of the 1993 NFL draft, Dotson started 88 of 120 possible games for the Packers while serving as an anchor at the right tackle position.Â
With Dotson, the Packers found rejuvenated success in the mid-to-late 90's and early 2000's, reaching the playoffs eight times, appearing in two super bowls and winning the team's first championship since 1967 with a 35-21 victory in Super Bowl XXXI (1996). Dotson was a key protector of MVP Quarterback Brett Favre and helped the Packers average 116 rushing yards during the 1996 season. Dotson was awarded the Ed Block Courage Award, an honor bestowed on him by his teammates, in 2000.
Dotson played for the Javelinas for the 1991-1992 season and made an immediate impact along the offensive line. He did not give up a sack in 1992 and did not allow any tackles by his opponent in six games. Â He was never penalized for holding or offside in his senior season and registered 78 knockdown blocks, earning him All-American honors for the 1992 season as well as being named the Lone Star Conference's Lineman of the Year.
As a team, the Javelinas had a 16-6-1 record with Dotson in the lineup, winning the Lone Star Conference title in 1992 and reached the NCAA Division II quarterfinals that year as well. Dotson also lettered in track and field for the Javelinas.
Dotson and his wife, Janell, have a daughter, Ashley, and two sons, Jared and Austin.
