Kingsville - Wide receiver
King Phillips was named Receiver of the Year for the Lone Star Conference to headline the season awards for Javelina Football.
Among the selections to the all-conference teams are first-teamers
King Phillips and
Demarcus Peters.
Jayden Trapp,
Miguel Carrizales,
Ivan Thomas,
Edward Chumley,
CJ Thompson,
Jakari Landry and
D'Cambren Verrett were all named to the second-team all conference as well.
Phillips spearheaded one of the best passing attacks in the conference, finishing first in the conference with 68 receptions and 880 receiving yards. He would also go on to tie the school record, at the time, for receptions in a game (12), and the following game against Western Oregon would set the new season record for receptions in a season with his 68 catches on the year.Â
Peters would finish his season tallying up 29 total tackles, 24 of them being solos, 4.5 TFLs, 3 pass breakups and 1 forced fumble to end the season against Eastern New Mexico.
On the opposite side from Phillips was Thomas who recorded 31 receptions for 409 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns on the season. Leading the rushing attack for the Javelinas was true-freshman Chumley who amassed 749 total yards and 8 touchdowns on the ground. Leading the way in the trenches for these all-conference names were Trapp and Carrizales. Thompson was also named to the second-team as a return specialist with 20 returns on the year for a total of 503 yards, and a long of 99 yards that went for a touchdown against West Texas A&M.
On the defensive side of the ball Landry led the team in tackles collecting 53, and 36 solos in just seven games played. Meanwhile, Verrett collected 43 tackles and a team leading 5 pass breakups on the year.
