Portales, NM – Texas A&M-Kingsville finished off the 2025 season with a 45-28 victory over Eastern New Mexico Saturday from Al Whitehead Field at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium on Saturday.
The Javelinas (5-6, 4-5 LSC) got help from a record-setting performance from receiver
Kevin Holmes Jr. to finish off their season in the victory column over the Greyhounds (3-8, 3-6 LSC). Holmes set a new single-game reception record with 13 catches to go with 157 yards and a touchdown. The junior from Bryan, Texas, broke the record that was previously tied for by
King Phillips earlier this season.
Overall, the Javelinas generated 493 total yards of offense while forcing four turnovers against the Greyhounds. The game was kicked off by the Javelinas' defense with an 83-yard scoop-and-score thanks to
Max Alvarez. Eastern New Mexico answered back in the quarter, as the firs period ended in a 7-7 tie.
The second half was an offensive eruption that the Javelina kicked off.
Lawrence Starks punched his way into the endzone from three yards out to give the Javelinas a ten-point lead. ENMU quickly answered thanks to a 75-yard burst up the middle to bring it back to a three-point game.
Jack Turner would connect with Starks through the air for a 21-yard screen pass to get the lead back to ten before the Greyhounds used another quick response with a 75-yard bomb to get it right back to a three-point game heading into the half.
The second half was much more dominant from the Javelinas, as the defense allowed just 19 total yards and forced an interception thanks to Darius Pamplin. The offense got it back to a 10-point lead as well, thanks to
Lawrence Starks' third total touchdown of the day to make it a 31-21 game.
Quarter number four was where the Javelinas really began to pull away from the Greyhounds, as Turner connected with Holmes for a 10-yard TD pass to make it a 17-point lead.
Harrison McKinley would break up a fourth-down touchdown attempt from the Greyhound passing game to get the ball back to the offense as Turner would later connect with Holmes for a 24-yard completion that gave the wide receiver the single-game reception record. Turner would later punch it in himself as the Javelinas got the win in the final game of the season.
