Women's Tennis kicks off final home stand of the season against No. 39 St. Mary's

The Javelinas take on their fourth ranked opponent in a row to start off their final three home matches

KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team returns home for their final three home matches of the season, starting off with a duel against the No. 39 St. Mary's Rattlers.

The Javelinas (7-7, 1-4 LSC) take on their fourth ranked opponent in a row, previously facing No. 24 Cameron, No. 24 Lubbock Christian, and No. 3 Midwestern State. The Rattlers (8-5, 2-2 LSC) come into the matchup winning two of their last three.

Leading the Rattlers will be Selina Wu, who ranks No. 10 in the nation in singles play. Alessa Maier previously faced off with Wu in the finals of the South Central Regional in the fall, where Maier took the win, 6-1, 7-6, to become the first Javelina ever to win the regional tournament.

Also for the Rattlers, Paula Garrote comes into the match ranked No. 50 in singles in the most recent rankings. Additionally, the pair of Wu and Karen Kondo are ranked No. 13 in the nation in doubles play.

For the Javelinas, Maier jumped up one spot to come in at No. 6 in the country in singles play, tying her previous personal high. Maier and her doubles partner, Milou ter Morsche, also moved up two slots in doubles play back to No. 30.

The three-match home stand begins on Thursday against the Rattlers at the Javelina Tennis Courts with first serve scheduled for 12 p.m.
