ARLINGTON, Texas - The No. 7 seed Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team was knocked out of the Lone Star Conference Tournament in the first round by the No. 18 and No. 2 seed Angelo State Rambelles on Thursday afternoon at the Arlington Tennis Center.

The Rambelles took the doubles point, 2-0, and the first three singles matches to take the victory and advance to the semifinals, 4-0.

The Javelinas finish the year at 10-10 overall, including a 3-5 record against ranked opponents with their highest-ranked win being on the road against No. 16 Georgia College.

"I believe this season was a success." said head coach Autumn Wollenzien, reflecting on the season, "This team had great chemistry and fight...This team played for each other. They were unselfish. They expected nothing but the best from each other. This was a special group of ladies, and I'm super proud of all of them. We will continue to improve because we have a very ambitious young group next year."

Seniors Alessa Maier, Milou ter Morsche, and Raina Zaffar led the way for the Javelinas this year. Maier was a linchpin for the Hogs on Court 1, going 17-3 in singles play and 15-4 overall (13-4 on Court 1) in doubles play with ter Morsche. She also set multiple program records, including the highest national singles ranking at No. 6. Even with the loss today, Maier is still highly likely to end the season in the national top 25, making her an ITA All-American - another program first.

Ter Morsche was similarly rock solid, going 13-6 on the year in singles play on Court 4 alongside her doubles record with Maier. The duo set another program record for the highest national ranking in doubles at No. 15. Ter Morsche's other achievements on the year include being named LSC Women's Tennis Academic Athlete of the Year and First-Team Doubles. Maier and ter Morsche also currently hold the first and second-most career wins in Javelina tennis history at 132 and 127, respectively.

Zaffar finished her Javelina career with an 11-7 record in singles play on the season, going 10-5 on Court 6. Throughout her career, Zaffar was named team captain multiple times from 2022-24. She was a three-time ITA All-Academic Team member and an ITA Scholar Athlete. She was also named to the 2021 LSC Sportsmanship Team.

"...This team, with three seniors, had great chemistry and fight. The seniors gave everything they had to this program," said Wollenzien about the three, "They were great examples of what it means to 'be relentless'. They always believed in each other."
