LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville tennis team dropped the first match of a two match road trip against the No. 24 Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps, 2-5.
The Javelinas (7-6, 1-3 LSC) fall to 2-3 against ranked opposition on the season. The Lady Chaps (16-3, 1-2 LSC) snap a two match losing streak.
Opening the match, the Lady Chaps took the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. LCU then took the overall match with four wins in singles play.
Alessa Maier went 2-0 on the day, teaming up with
Milou ter Morsche for the Javelina's lone win in doubles play, 6-2. Maier then grabbed a comfortable victory in straight sets on the singles court, 6-4, 6-3. The national No. 7 in singles play extends her winning streak to seven matches.
Luna Jokanovic secured the other Javelina point in a three-set battle, upsetting No. 30 Andrea De Bernardo. Jokanovic and her opponent traded 6-3 sets before Jokanovic took the third set and the match, 6-4. Jokanovic is now 3-1 in her last four singles matches.
The Javelinas still face one more tough test before they head back to Kingsville, taking on No. 3 Midwestern State on Saturday afternoon. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
