Javelinas reopen conference play with sweep of UAFS

KINGSVILLE, Texas - With the non-conference portion of the schedule complete, the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team reopened conference play with a 7-0 sweep of the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions on Friday afternoon.

The Javelinas (7-4, 1-1 LSC) get their first conference win on the season after dropping their first LSC match to No. 28 Angelo State on March 2. The Lions (2-11, 0-1 LSC) drop their first matchup of the LSC calendar.

The Hogs opened the day with a strong sweep of the doubles matches. On Court 1, trailing by as much as 2-5 at one point in the match, the team of Alessa Maier and Milou ter Morsche stormed back to send the match to a tiebreaker where the two completed the comeback to sweep the Lions in doubles play with a 7-6 win.

Staying hot on the singles courts, Ter Morsche kept the Hogs rolling with a dominant shutout win on Court 4, 6-0, 6-0. With the match won, the Hogs did not slow down as Ella Hester was the next to turn in a win on Court 6, coming back from a first set loss to take the next two sets and the win, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. The win was Hester's first appearance on the singles courts since a 6-0, 6-2 win in an exhibition match against Collin College on Feb. 17 and her second of the Spring.
