KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingville women's tennis team opened up conference play on Saturday afternoon against the Angelo State Rambelles. Splitting the singles matches 3-3, the doubles point proved the difference as the Rambelles took the victory, 4-3.
The Javelinas (4-2, LSC 0-1) drop their second match in a row but will look to get back in the win column with their last match of the home stint against Morgan State on March 8.
In doubles play,
Alessa Maier and
Milou ter Morsche were the lone team to find victory for the Hogs as the Rambelles took the doubles point, 2-1.
The singles points were evenly split 3-3, as the Rambelles won on Courts 1, 2, and 3 while the Javelinas were victorious on Courts 4, 5, and 6. Ter Morsche picked up her second win of the afternoon in convincing fashion, 6-2, 6-2.
Annika Andersson Gomez and
Raina Zaffar both won in three set thrillers. After splitting the first two sets 7-6 apiece, Gomez took the tiebreaker third set, 10-6. Zaffar won set one 7-6 before dropping set two 3-6. With a back-and-forth battle in set three, Zaffar took the win in set three, 10-8.
The Javelinas are back in action at home on Friday, March 8 against Morgan State before heading on the road to take on Indiana University Pennsylvania and Slippery Rock in Orlando, FL on March 12 and 14.
