KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team travels a bit closer to home for one last nonconference matchup before Lone Star Conference play kicks off in earnest, taking on the Northeastern State Riverhawks on Monday, March 18.
The Javelinas (6-3, 0-1 LSC) are coming off a 1-1 week in Florida at the USTA's Spring Break Tennis, splitting with a win over No.48 Indiana Pennsylvania and a loss to Slippery Rock with both matches being decided by a score of 4-3. The Riverhawks (4-2, 0-0 MIAA) are similarly coming off a 1-1 week, splitting a doubleheader against Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State.
The two teams have meet four times before with the Riverhawks holding a 4-0 lead in the series, last meeting in 2018 where the then No.18 Riverhawks took the win, 8-1.
The Riverhawks are led by Valeria Teran, who came in at No. 61 in singles in the most recent ITA national rankings. For the Javelinas,
Alessa Maier remains top ten in the nation at No. 8 and also teams up with
Milou ter Morsche in doubles to clock in at No. 19 as a duo. The Javelinas as a whole rank No. 50 in the country.
The Hogs and the Riverhawks will meet at a neutral site, the Rohrbach Stadium Tennis Complex on the campus of St. Mary's. First serve for the match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
