KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team is gearing up for their first home matches of the season as they're set to welcome the UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros to the Javelina Tennis Courts for an exhibition match before kicking off conference play against Angelo State.
The Javelinas (4-1, LSC 0-0) are coming off of their first official loss of the season against Henderson State, 2-5. The Vaqueros come into the match having dropped their last two against Incarnate Word and TAMU-Corpus Christi. UTRGV will be the Javelinas' second Division I opponent of the Spring season, having faced TAMUCC themselves to open the schedule. Angelo State (7-1, LSC 0-0) will be a tough matchup for the Hogs to open the LSC schedule, coming into the week on a five-game win streak.
Alessa Maier will be looking to lead the Hogs to a 2-0 week. Maier is currently 5-1 in singles play and 6-0 in doubles with teammate
Milou ter Morsche on the Spring, including exhibitions. Ter Morsche is 3-2 in her last five singles matches.
Also on a roll recently for the Javelinas has been the doubles team of
Annika Andersson Gomez and
Ella Hester. The two are 4-1 in their last five doubles matches, with the lone loss being a 5-7 thriller against Henderson State. Gomez is also 4-1 in her last five singles matches as well.
The Hogs will take on UTRGV on Wednesday, Feb. 29 with first serve scheduled for 12 p.m. before matching up against ASU on Saturday, Mar. 2 at 11 a.m.
