RICHARDSON, Texas – Defensive back Amos Coleman III, was named the Lone Star Conference Special Team's Player of the Week for week one of the 2023 football season, as announced in a conference press release on Monday afternoon.
Coleman earns the honor after helping the Javelinas pick up their first win of the 2023 campaign last Saturday over Colorado Mesa, by taking a 93-yard kick-off back to the house for six to tie the game in the second quarter at 10-10.
He then helped the defense keep the Mavericks off the board for the rest of the afternoon as TAMUK went on to earn a 30-10 season opening win on the road.
The kick return touchdown was the second of Coleman's career, the other one coming against Midwestern State last season. This is the first time Coleman has earned a weekly honor from the league, after being voted the LSC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
The last Javelina to earn player of the week honors from the conference was kicker Gilbert Garza who was named special teams player of the week three times in 2022.
The Javelinas are now set to take on No. 22 West Georgia in their home opener this Saturday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.
