WACO, Texas/RICHARDSON, Texas – Texas A&M-Kingsville has entered the American Football Coaches Association Top-25 for the first time in young 2023 season, at #21 after the Javelinas defeated the then #20 West Georgia Wolves this past Saturday, 20-17.
The last time the Javelinas were ranked in the poll came in week nine of the 2022 season at the #20-spot.
A key factor in Saturday's win, senior defensive back Amos Coleman III earned his second consecutive Lone Star Conference player of the week honor this week, for his outstanding defensive performance this past Saturday as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Coleman, who was named special teams player of the week last week earns the defensive honor after posting an incredible stat line in TAMUK's win recording two interceptions, a forced fumble, a separate fumble recovery, and a team-leading nine tackles in the win.
This marks the first time the New Orleans native has earned the weekly award for conference defenders.
The last Javelina defender to earn the award was Isaiah Jacobs who had two interceptions in TAMUK's win over ranked West Texas A&M in week three of 2022.
The Hogs now prepare to open conference play this coming Saturday, Sept. 11 on the road against Western New Mexico at 8 p.m. CT.
