SILVER CITY, NM – Texas A&M-Kingsville's women's tennis team secured a crucial, 6-1 win over Western New Mexico on Friday in the Land of Enchantment.
TAMUK struck first, taking the double's point of the match with the pairs of Manuela Turolo/Raina Zaffar and Alessa Maier/Milou Ter Morsche securing 6-3 and 6-4 wins respectively.
After securing the 1-0 lead in the doubles, Alessa Maier got things going for the Javelinas at the No. 1 spot taking her single's match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
At No. 2, junior Raina Zaffar fought hard to secure a narrow three-set win, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 as at No. 3 Manuela Turolo dominated as the sophomore from Italy took her match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
At No. 4 and 5 Milou Ter Morsche cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory before Annika Andersson Gomez took the No. 5 match in two, 6-4, 6-2.
Following the win, the Javelinas will now prepare for a match against UT Tyler on Thursday, April 13.
