ARLINGTON, Texas - Texas A&M-Kingsville's women's tennis team season ended on Thursday afternoon in the Lone Star Conference Quarterfinals to the No. 1 seeded Cameron Aggies, 4-0.
Despite Manuela Turolo and Raina Zaffar's victory at the No. 3 spot in doubles play, 6-4, the Aggies earned the doubles point taking the other two matches.
CU, took the next three singles matches at the No. 1, 5, and 6 spots to secure the win as the Javelinas had won the first set at the No. 2, 3, and 4 matches but were forced to abdicate with the match decided.
TAMUK ends the season with a record of 7-12 and 3-7 record in conference play as All-LSC First-Team Alessa Maier became the highest ranked singles player in program history at No. 47 in the ITA D-II rankings.
The Hechingen, Germany native had a stellar Spring 2023 season with a singles record of 13-4 against NCAA competition, 8-2 in LSC play while playing all of her 27 matches at the No. 1 spot for the Javelinas. Maier also recorded two wins over nationally ranked opponents, ending regular season play winning nine out of her last ten matches.
The junior's selection is also the seventh time in nine years that a Javelina has earned First-Team All-LSC selection.
Classmate Milou ter Morsche was named to the LSC All-Academic team for the second consecutive season maintaining her 4.0 GPA while pursuing a degree in marketing while putting together a 11-6 record against NCAA opponents while going 8-2 through her last ten matches of the regular season.
