ODESSA, Texas – The Javelina women's tennis team knocked off UT Permian Basin in a tight team match on Friday, securing the 4-3 win to open Lone Star Conference play. 

The match came down to the final match of the day, as Annika Andersson Gomez won at No. 6, 6-4,6-3. 

Earlier in the match, the Falcons took the doubles point despite at No. 1, Manuela Turolo and Raina Zaffar secured a 6-3 win. This came after the pair took the first four games before, UTPB's top duo pulled within in one game at 3-4, as Turolo and Zaffar pulled away taking the last two games. 

The Falcons got two singles point at No. 2 and 5, but at No. 3 Zaffar secured a three-set thriller winning, 5-7, 6-4, 6-0 and Turolo won at No. 4 across three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 for TAMUK.

Alessa Maier evened the match at 3-3, after winning her match at No. 1, 6-2, 7-6 before Andersson Gomez secured the 4-3 win at No. 6.

With the win, the Javelinas improve to 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in LSC play while UTPB drops to 3-7 on the season and 1-1 in league play. 

The Javelinas will stay out west for another match tomorrow against Ouachita Baptist at 12 p.m.
