KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field program will travel to Abilene, Texas, as the program resumes its outdoor season, following a trip to the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championship. The Javelinas will compete at the Wes Kittley Invitational, which spans two days at Elmer Gray Stadium, beginning Friday on the campus of Abilene Christian.

The meet opens at 2 p.m. on Friday with the men's and women's discus, as well as the Distance Carnival, which will see a section of the 1500m run at 6:45 p.m., ahead of the 5,000m run at 7:30 p.m. and the 10,000m run at 8:45 p.m.

Saturday will begin with a 10:30 a.m. javelin throw before running events start at 2 p.m. with the 4x100m relay.

Sophomores Thomas Nieto and Ja'Qualon Scott carry momentum into the weekend after the pair were crowned First Team All-Americans following a couple of bronze medals at the indoor championships. Nieto placed third in the pole vault, while Scott placed 10th in the 400m dash, ahead of a third-place finish in the 60m hurdles. Additionally, the pair is slated to don the Blue and Gold for the first time in their outdoor career.

A handful of throwers and distance competitors have already begun their outdoor campaigns, as a conglomerate visited the Alamo City for the Trinity Invitational.

Four won events in San Antonio, as junior Katryna Hernandez took gold in both the shot put and hammer throw, while graduate student Veronica Garcia took gold in the discus.

For the men, classmate Stephen Cardenas was the hammer champion, and senior Marco Arevalo finished atop the podium in the shot put.
