ORLANDO, Fla. - Texas A&M-Kingsville's women's tennis team dropped a 4-3, nail biting match against Slippery Rock (PA) on Tuesday afternoon.
"We have to reset and refocus," said head coach Autumn Wollenzeim. "Today's loss was tough, but we learned some things that will help in the bigger picture."
The match, marked the Javelina's first of three straight matches in the Sunshine state with their next match set for tomorrow against Hillsborough at 1 p.m.
The double's point was claimed by SRU to start the match despite a dominant 6-2 win at No. 2 by Raina Zaffar and Manuela Turolo.
In the singles, it was a back-and-forth affair throughout the day. Alessa Maier started strong at No. 1 for the Blue and Gold winning her match, 6-2, 6-0.
At No. 5, Annika Andersson Gomez responded well after dropping the first set of her match , 4-6 to win the next two sets only surrendering one game the rest of the way, 6-0, 6-1.
Milou Ter Morsche, picked up the Javs' last win of the match at No. 4, 6-4, 6-4.
It was not enough however as The Rock was able to take the three matches it needed in the singles' portion to secure the 4-3 team win.
