MILLEDGVILLE, Ga. - The Javelina women's tennis team ended their three match swing through Georgia with a 5-2 win over Augusta on Saturday afternoon.
"I think we are still working on playing our best. They are all really focused playing together and playing well," said head coach Autumn Wollenzein. "Milou and Manu pulled it out for the team. They both fought hard and inspired each other throughout the battle. The team as a whole had to bounce back and play with confidence today. That was very important for us."
The Jaguars struck first in the match, taking the doubles point, despite the pair of Alessa Maier and Milou Ter Morsche earning a 6-2 win over Augusta's Juliana Martinez and Andrea Gonzalez.
Raina Zaffar and Manuela Turolo nearly stole the point for the Javs, but fell 7-6 dropping the deciding tiebreaker to Madeline Frediani and Priscilla Landi.
In the singles, Alessa Maier and Annika Andersson Gomez got things going for the Javs in the one and six spots respectively earning wins in straight sets.
The Jaguars got their only singles point shortly after in the number two match as Madeline Frediani def. Sterre Moerdijk 6-2, 6-3.
In the tightest matches of the day Manuela Turolo and Milou Ter Morsche both over came first set losses to earn the final two points of the day to secure the team win.
Ter Morsche dropped the first set of the number five match 2-6, but bounced back winning the next two, including a tight second set which saw her take the tiebreaking game to win the set 7-6 before taking the third and deciding set 6-4.
At the fours, Turolo responded strongly after losing the first set 4-6, taking the final sets 7-5, 6-4 taking the Javs to a 5-2 win.
