Javelina Tennis to take on Harding in Dallas

TAMUK set to face its first DII opponent of the Spring

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team heads to Dallas this weekend for the team's first Division II match of the 2023 Spring season, as the Javelinas take on the Harding Lady Bison at 1 p.m on Saturday.

The Javs (0-1) come into just their second match of the Spring after falling to Division I opponent Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at home, 7-0 back on Jan. 30. 

In the loss, Alessa Maier and Milou Ter Morsche pushed the Islanders' Emma Aucagne and Palina Aulevich in every game at the No. 2 spot but fell with a final score of 6-4.  

In the singles competition, TAMUK's Anika Anderson put on an impressive performance winning the Javelinas' only set on the day, winning her first set against Saulevich, 2-6, before dropping the next two 6-2,7-5. 

The Javs enter the Spring season led head coach Autumn Wollenzein, and juniors Manuela Turolo and Alessa Maier, who were both named Lone Star Conference players to watch this season.  

Maier, was a First-Team All-Lone Star Conference selection and earned a spot on the All-LSC tournament team a year ago going 16-5 on the season and 8-1 in conference play at the No. 1 and 2 spots.  

The German also finished ranked No. 52 in the ITA singles rankings for Division II.  

Turolo, put together an impressive singles record in the Spring of 2022, going 13-8 out of the No. 5 and 6 position earning a 5-3 Lone Star Conference record. 

Harding (2-4) comes into the match having loss last week to Arkansas Tech, 5-2.  

UP NEXT 

Following the match in Dallas, the Javelinas will then fly out to Georgia for three matches in the Peach state against Young Harris, Georgia College, and Agusta on Feb. 23-25.
