RICHARDSON, Texas – The Lone Star Conference announced that senior
Keon Clary was named LSC Defensive Player of the Week for the cornerback's performance in the Javelina's 34-27 win over Western Oregon on Saturday.
The West Columbia, S.C. native played a vital role in holding off the Wolves, snagging two interceptions in the second quarter and adding four tackles (one solo, three assisted) to his stat line.
Clary's first interception came at a critical moment early in the second quarter, picking the ball off on the TAMUK 9-yard line as the Wolves were threatening to extend their lead. He would take the ball all the way back 91 yards, but the return was called back on a block in the back penalty.
The cornerback's second interception of the day would also come in the second quarter, picking off the Wolves at midfield and returning it 20 yards to give the offense the ball on the WOU 30. The interception would set up a touchdown two plays later to extend the Javelina lead to two scores.
He's the third Javelina to win POTW honors this season after
Amos Coleman III in weeks one and two and
Gilbert Garza in week three.
The Javelinas now prepare to take on Midwestern State this Saturday, Nov. 11 in the regular season finale at 1 p.m. CT.
