DALLAS, Texas – The Lone Star Conference held its annual volleyball awards banquet Wednesday night ahead of the 2023 championship tournament hosted by Dallas Baptist University. After a 19-9 season going 11-5 in conference play the fifth seeded Javelinas waited patiently until three names were called as award winners.
Jeri Ficklen started out the night winning All Conference Honorable Mention. Ficklen able to amass 159 kills on the year having 1.64 kills per set and a .258 hitting percentage. Defensively she had 14 solo blocks and 78 block assists putting her at 0.95 blocks per set.
Ayanna Jackson and
Jackie Alanis were honored with All Conference First Team for the second consecutive year in a row. Alanis totaling 299 kills on the year having 2.82 kills per set, putting her at a .258 hitting percentage. Alanis also helping out offensively with 34 Service Aces on the year leading the team in that category. Defensively Alanis posted 6 solo blocks along with 34 block assists accumulating to a .38 blk/s. Jackson leading the Javelinas in most offensive categories with 309 kills, 2.97 kills per set and a .348 percentage on the year. She also led defensively with 19 solo blocks, 93 block assists, putting her at 1.08 blk/s.
These award winners along with the rest of the Javelinas will be in action Thursday at 7:30 P.M. as the 5
th seed matching up against the number 4 seeded UAFS to open the tournament at the Burg Center in Dallas, Texas.
