RICHARDSON, Texas - Redshirt sophomore Gilbert Garza was named the Lone Star Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference office in a release on Monday.

Garza, was perfect kicking this past weekend posting 11 total points in the Javelinas' 43-10 win over Eastern New Mexico.  He hit two field goals – 39 and 23 yards - with one as time ran down to end the first half and added five extra points.

This is the second straight week that Garza has been named the conference's special teams player of the week, and the third time Garza earned the honor in his career.

Last week, Garza was recognized for hitting a career-best 52-yard field goal in the Javelinas' 31-24 victory over West Texas A&M.  He added four extra points for seven kicking points.

The Weslaco native also becomes the first player in the conference to be selected as a player of the week for a second time this season.
