CANYON, Texas. — The Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field program competed in the 2022 WT Last Chance Meet on Sunday, with eight competitors representing the Javelinas at the WTAMU Track and Field Cross Country Complex,
A trio of shot putters competed in Canyon, including sophomore
Katryna Hernandez (Skidmore, Texas), who improved on her previous season-best with a toss of 14.33m (47-0.25) that tentatively moves her into 23rd nationally. She took first at the meet, with freshman
Devon Williams (Gonzales, Texas) not far behind in second after a 14.09m (46-2.75) throw that represents a personal record.
In the men's iteration, redshirt senior
D.J. Delancy (Bethel Town, Jamaica) collected first for the second consecutive meet after reaching 17.11m (56-1.75).
Williams also made progress in the discus, as the newcomer jumped to 23rd on the NCAA performance list thanks to a 46.55m (152-9) mark that landed her third.
Also logging a provisional mark, junior
Jordan Wilson (Blytheville, Arkansas) measured at 7.42m (24-4.25) to claim bronze, while redshirt senior
Shammawi Wellington (Portmore, Jamaica) took10th with a leap of 6.92m (22-8.5).
Meanwhile, senior
Stephen Cardenas (Ingleside, Texas) slung the implement 53.12m (174-3) in the hammer throw on his first attempt to wrangle a third-place finish.
Rounding out the Blue and Gold athletes who made the trip, sophomore
Gabriel Field (China Spring, Texas) clocked in at 55.38 in the 400 m hurdles, to place ninth.
The Javelinas now await the NCAA's release on who will receive an invite to the 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which begins Thursday, May 26, at the GVSU Lacrosse/Track and Field Stadium in Allendale, Michigan.
