This Edna, Texas native cleared 3.77m (12-04.50) to make the record her own after tying the previous mark last week

HOUSTON- Senior Kimberly Ortolon (Edna, Texas) snapped the Texas A&M-Kingsville program record in the pole vault, as the track and field team competed at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight Invitational hosted at the Wendel D. Ley Track and Holloway Field on the campus of Rice on Saturday.

Ortolon cleared a bar of 3.77m (12-04.50) on her first attempt to snap the record after tying it at last week's 14th Annual Cactus Cup. She placed second behind a talented vaulter from Houston while improving to 38th nationally. Meanwhile, redshirt senior Dean Wallace (Geronimo, Texas) placed sixth in the men's vault at 4.48m (14-08.25).

Senior Gertrudis Balli (Matamoros Tamaulipas, Mexico) claimed the team's lone gold medal on the day after slinging the discus 48.19m (15-01) to top a field that included 13 NCAA Division I student-athletes.

On the men's side, classmate D.J. Delancy (Bethel Town, Jamaica) continued his strong season, placing in both the discus and the shot put. He took seventh in the discus at 48.73m (159-10) before logging a distance of 16.84m (55-03) in the shot put that landed him second behind a competitor from Rice.

Fellow senior Stephen Cardenas (Ingleside, Texas) reached a new personal best in the hammer throw after heaving the implement 56.06m (183-11) to place fourth.

Rounding out the field events, junior Dustin Richardson (Natalia, Texas) cleared a bar of 1.87m (6-01.50) on his first attempt for a sixth-place finish.

Over on the track, sophomore Gabriel Field (China Spring, Texas) performed well in two iterations of the hurdles. First, he took eighth in the 110m hurdles, with a time of 15.07, before clocking in at 52.86 for sixth in the 400m hurdles. His time in the latter event placed him 19th on the DII performance list.

Freshman Cynai Christopher (Missouri City, Texas) was the standout performer for the women, as she took third in the 400m dash, clocking in at 56.46 to narrowly edge out Creshaun Cresser of UTSA.
