SAN ANTONIO – Trying for the program's first-ever road win over the St. Mary's Rattlers, the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team battled throughout the afternoon on Saturday at the Rohrbach Stadium Tennis Complex in San Antonio, but ended up falling, 5-2.

The Javelinas first Lone Star Conference loss of the season puts their LSC record at 1-1, with their overall mark at 6-7. St. Mary's is 10-2 overall and 2-0 in the LSC.

In doubles play, sophomore Alessa Maier (Dusseldurf, Germany) and freshman Manuela Turolo (Cividale del Friuli, Italy) collected their sixth win in their last seven matches together by a 7-5 score. Maier and Turolo are now 7-3 on the season, matching the highest win total from any of TAMUK's tandems in 2021.

Unfortunately for the Javs, StMU took the first and second flight in doubles, both by 6-4 scores, to log the first point of the match and they were also victorious 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match and 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6. Sophomore Milou ter Morsche (Goor, Netherlands) got the Blue and Gold on the board in straight sets in the fifth flight, 6-4, 6-2 and Maier added her sixth straight triumph by outplaying Marina Vigil in the second flight, 6-4, 6-2, to bring the Javelinas to within 3-2.

Maier's win would be the last of the day for TAMUK, however. Angela Vargas topped sophomore Noemi Sante (Dusseldorf, Germany), 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3 to clinch an StMU victory and the Rattlers also won the fourth flight, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 to bring the match to an end.
