Box Score LA MIRANDA, Calif. – Facing off against the highest-ranked team they've faced so far in 2022, the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team battled all afternoon, but ultimately came up on the short end of a 5-2 loss to the No. 11 Biola Eagles on Friday afternoon at the Biola Tennis Center in La Miranda, Calif.
The Javelinas now own a record of 6-6, while Biola improves to 16-1.
The doubles matches ended 2-1 against TAMUK despite sophomores Noemi Sante (Dusseldorf, Germany) and Milou ter Morsche (Goor, Netherlands) winning the second flight, 6-4. This makes five doubles victories for this pair in 2022, matching a team-high. BU won the No. 1 flight, 6-4, and the third by a score of 7-6.
Once the contest switched to singles play, the Javelinas quickly snatched up a pair of points. In the No. 2 match, sophomore Alessa Maier (Hechingen, Germany) won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. This makes five straight victories for Maier, her longest win streak as a Javelina.
Freshman Manuela Turolo (Cividale del Friuli, Italy) collected her fourth triumph in five tries by dominating the sixth flight , 6-4, 6-1, but that was the last flight the Javs would win. BU took the No. 1 match, 6-3, 6-1, and the fourth contest, 6-1, 6-4. The matches played at No. 3 and No. 5 both went to a third set, but BU came away with the final frame in each instance.
The Javelinas will return to Texas to begin preparations for a March 26th showdown with conference rival St. Mary's in San Antonio.
