Box Score SAN DIEGO – Despite a pair of victories in doubles play and two more in singles, the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team saw its three-match win streak come to an end by a score of 4-3 at the hands of the Point Loma Sea Lions on Wednesday evening at the PLNU Tennis Courts in San Diego.
The Javelinas now own a record of 6-5 while PLNU is 11-5.
TAMUK started the day with a strong showing in doubles despite dropping the second flight, 7-6. At No. 3, sophomore Alessa Maier (Hechingen, Germany) and freshman Manuela Turolo (Cividale del Friuli, Italy) topped their opponents, 6-4 and in the No. 1 match, junior Maya Donkor (McLean, Va.) and sophomore Raina Zaffar (Guwahati, India) recorded a 6-3 win to lock up the match's first point.
Maier also put together an excellent performance in her singles match in the second flight. She earned her fourth consecutive straight sets victory by a score of 6-1, 6-2 and Maier has not taken six of her last eight matchups.
Sophomore Milou ter Morsche (Goor, Netherlands) also picked up her fourth consecutive triumph, 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 5 match. The last three matches in that streak have been two sets wins.
Unfortunately for the Javs, they couldn't find the clinching point they needed. The Sea Lions collected the fourth flight, 6-0, 6-3 and the sixth, 6-2, 6-2, before taking the No. 1 and No. 3 matches in three sets.
The Javelinas have a day off on Thursday, then will finish their time in the Golden State by battling the Biola Eagles on Friday at 2 p.m. CT.
