Box Score ATLANTA – Sophomore Alessa Maier (Hechingen, Germany) and freshman Manuela Turolo (Cividale del Friuli, Italy) earned a win in the third flight in doubles play, then each collected victories in their singles matches, but the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team was narrowly defeated, 4-3, by the Georgia College Bobcats on Friday afternoon in Atlanta.
TAMUK's record is now 3-3 while the Bobcats are 5-1.
It was Maier and Turolo in control in the No. 3 doubles match, posting a 6-1 final to get their squad started. The Javs also nearly collected the second flight, but a 7-5 defeat suffered by sophomores Milou ter Morsche (Goor, Netherlands) and Noemi Sante (Dusseldorf, Germany), combined with a 6-3 decision for GC in the No. 1 match allowed the Bobcats to prevail in doubles play.
In the singles portion of the contest, Maier had to come from behind, but she completed that comeback with identical 6-2 scores in the second and third frames to triumph 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Turolo outlasted her opponent in the first set at No. 5, then cruised the rest of the way to come out on top, 6-4, 6-0 and junior Maya Donkor (McLean, Va.) painted the first flight Blue and Gold by a score of 6-3, 6-3. Unfortunately for the Javs, victories by GC in the third, fourth and sixth flights gave the match to the Bobcats.
