Javelinas head to Atlanta for three matches in three days

Clark Atlanta, Auburn-Montgomery, Georgia College all on the docket for TAMUK

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team closed out the first week of their 2022 regular season by earning victories over Texas A&M-Texarkana and Weatherford College and they'll try and keep that momentum going when they visit Atlanta, Ga., where they'll play three matches in three days against three different opponents.

TAMUK's week starts on Wednesday, when they'll face the Clark Atlanta University Panthers at 2 p.m., followed by a Thursday throwdown with the No. 20 Auburn Montgomery Warhawks scheduled for 12 p.m., then concluding on Friday when the Javs will meet the Georgia College Bobcats at 2 p.m.

The success against the Eagles and Wolves started in doubles play, where sophomores Noemi Sante (Dusseldorf, Germany) and Milou ter Morsche (Goor, Netherlands) won each of their matches handily. The pairings of sophomore Alessa Maier (Hechingen, Germany) and freshman Manuela Turolo (Cividale del Friuli, Italy) and junior Maya Donkor (McLean, Va.) and sophomore Raina Zaffar (Guwahati, India) also earned wins while TAMUK was in Plano.

In singles competition, newcomer Viktoriia Grigoreva Tver found her game and was 2-0, with both victories coming in straight sets. Sante also won both of her singles matches, with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph helping TAMUK dispose of TAMUT and a come-from-behind, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 effort providing one of the final points against Weatherford.

While CAU will enter Wednesday's match still searching for a its first win of the spring, the Warhawks and Bobcats have gotten off to excellent starts and are a combined 7-1. AUM's only loss came on Feb. 11th to No. 7 Columbus State, but they bounced back one day later by dropping sixth-ranked Flagler. The Warhawks have been led by freshman Estefania Garcia, who's undefeated in the No. 2 flight in 2022.

Georgia College has dropped only a single point in their last three victories and their players in the No. 2 and No. 4 spots have combined to lose only one set so far in the spring.
