Javelinas selected for 2022 Fun Town RV Heritage Bowl

They will take on East Central, on Saturday, December 3rd, in Corsicana, Texas

CORSICANA, Texas- On Tuesday, the Fun Town RV Heritage Bowl committee announced that the Texas &M-Kingsville football team has accepted an invitation to play in the event and will take on the East Central Tigers at CNB&T Stadium on Saturday, December 3rd, in Corsicana, Texas.

"I think it's the cusp of what we want to do here," said Executive Director of Athletics Steve Roach. "We want to provide opportunities for great experiences, and I think our young men are going to come back here on December 4th and this is going to be a great experience. Not only do they get additional time with their brothers in that locker room, they get to compete one more time knowing this is the last game."

Following a 7-4 season that marked the first time the Javelinas achieved a winning record since 2016, the Javelinas will once again be playing in the postseason as they look to knock off the Tigers in Corsicana. TAMUK's last postseason appearance came in 2016, when they routed Southern Arkansas 24-7 in the Agent David Barry Live United Bowl, concluding the season 9-3.

Meanwhile, the Tigers went 8-3 after a challenging schedule in the Great American Conference and will meet the Javelinas for the 17th time in the history of the programs. TAMUK holds the edge going 14-3 against ECU and winning the last three matchups.

Historically, the Javelinas have been one of the nation's top teams in the postseason, going 24-6, while picking up seven National Championships in addition to a bowl victory along the way. Additionally, this will mark the first postseason appearance under head coach Mike Salinas.

"I'm just excited that our kids get another opportunity to play again," said Salinas following the announcement. "I know they were in limbo, wondering if we'd get a call and is thankful for the opportunity that the Heritage Bowl provided for us to go out and compete one more time."

Tickets for the event are available online at https://www.heritagebowl.org/, with general admission priced at $10, and children five and under will get in free. If you can't make the trip, the event will be broadcast live locally on The CW, an affiliate of KRIS Communications.
