KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis program makes the trek north to San Antonio this weekend to take on Central Oklahoma and Trinity in a pair of non-conference matches.
The Javelinas' first matchup against UCO will take place at 2 p.m. CT on Friday, March 2, before the second contest against Trinity the following day on March 3 at 11 a.m. CT.
TAMUK faced UTRGV for two matches last week at home, taking the first win of the year on the front end at 5-2 before dropping the back end of the doubleheader at 4-0.
Junior Laura Montalvo (Cochabamba, Bolivia) and sophomore Maya Donkor (McLean, Va.) were the lone Blue and Gold tandem to win their pairing as the Vaqueros took the doubles point. Donkor and Montalvo pulled off a 7-5 decision in the top flight to secure their victory.
The duo also ended up with a point in the singles portion of play, with Montalvo downing Ana Platisa in the third flight in three sets, while Donkor did the same in the second flight against Kristyna Mamicova.
Freshman Milou ter Morsche (Goor, Netherlands) was the first Javelina to take a point in singles play. She bested Katarina Sasaroga in the fifth pairing in three sets, including a 10-6 super-tiebreaker win in the second set.
Fellow newcomer Raina Zaffar (Guwahati, India) added a three-set win in the fourth matchup against Valeria Montero, while freshman Alessa Maier (Hechingen, Germany) closed out play with a three-set win in the top flight against Isabelle Bahr.
Central Oklahoma currently sports a 3-1 record in the dual season with wins over Midwestern State, Flagler and Angelo State. The lone loss came to U-Indy at the ITA Indoor National Championship on February 26-28, hosted by the Bronchos.
Adel-Byanu Abidullina has held on to the top spot in singles play for all four matches of the year, sporting a 3-1 record in the process. Mae Canete and Blythe Buntrock are the lone Bronchos with a flawless record as the former is 3-0 in her three matches at the second flight, while the latter is 2-0 at the fifth pairing.
Abidullina and Isabella Dunlap have paired up as the top doubles tandem but own a 1-1 mark. Canete and Paola Landin are 1-2 at the second flight in doubles play, with the duo of Buntrock and Nikki Boyar rounding out the third flight with a 2-2 mark.
Trinity sits at 2-3 on the year, with identical 7-0 losses to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on January 24 followed by wins over Hardin-Simmons on February 5 and McMurry on February 6, with a loss to Angelo State on February 6 punctuating the most recent result.
Elodie Richard is the only Tiger with a winning record while appearing in more than one match as she is 3-2 between the third and sixth singles flights. Catherine Cushing is the other Trinity member with multiple wins as she owns a 2-3 mark between the second, third and fourth spots.
Cushing has teamed up with Megan Flores for a 3-2 record in doubles play, including a 3-1 mark as the second tandem, while Mary Kaffen and Zoe Kaffen own the top duo spot with a 2-3 overall record.
