Javelinas Rocky Mountain bound for duals with MSU Denver, CSU-Pueblo

TAMUK in the midst of a six-match road swing before LSC dual season

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis program will make the trek north into Colorado this weekend for a pair of dual matches with MSU Denver and CSU-Pueblo staring on Saturday, February 29.

The Javelinas are currently 2-1 in the spring season with wins over Division I foes Prairie View A&M and UTRGV. TAMUK downed the Vaqueros last week at 5-2 to wrap up the cross-division portion of the schedule.

Five Javelinas carry a 2-1 record through three matches in the singles portion of play, with senior Victoria Romanovskaia (Simferopol, Crimea, Russia) anchoring the top spot in the lineup for head coach Autumn Wollenzien. Romanovskaia downed her opponents against PVAMU and UTRGV, but suffered a loss to her foe from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Junior Laura Montalvo (Cochabamba, Bolivia) has claimed the second spot in the lineup in singles play and owns an identical mark for the Javelinas, she is followed by sophomore Maya Donkor (McLean, Va.) in the third spot and senior Valerie Ruiz (San Antonio, Texas) in the fourth as the two are in the mix with 2-1 records as well.

Senior Stephanie Baerman (San Antonio, Texas) is the fifth member of the Blue and Gold with a 2-1 mark, having done so in the sixth position in singles play.

Montalvo and Baerman are the only tandem with a win in doubles play as they avoided the sweep against UTRGV with a 6-2 win in the second position.

The matchup against the Roadrunners is slated for Saturday, February 29, in Denver starting at 2 p.m. CT, while the dual against the Thunderwolves await the Javelinas on Sunday, March 1, in Pueblo, Colo., starting at 11 a.m. CT.
