KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis program returns from their two-week hiatus on Saturday as they pay a visit south to Edinburg, Texas, to take on UTRGV for the third Division-I matchup of the 2020 spring season.
The Javelinas defeated Priarie View A&M on February 3 at 5-2 with wins in five of the six singles matchups at the Javelina Tennis Courts. All six pairings were decided in two sets with senior 
Victoria Romanovskaia (Simferopol, Crimea, Russia) sparking the run with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jimena Duran-Castellanos in the top billing.
Classmate 
Stephanie Baerman (San Antonio, Texas) followed suit in the sixth pairing with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Anette Lira, while sophomore 
Maya Donkor (McLean, Va.) added a 6-1, 6-3 win in the third flight over Mahogani Green to put TAMUK on the cusp.
Senior 
Valerie Ruiz (San Antonio, Texas) secured the team win for the Javelinas behind a 6-4, 6-3 showing over Claudia Medina in the fourth flight, and it was junior 
Laura Montalvo (Cochabamba, Bolivia) who won out in the super tiebreaker in the second set of the second flight to cement the score at 5-2.
Montalvo cruised through the first set at 6-1 over Victoria Castillo and needed a 9-7 final in the super tiebreaker of the second set to claim the win.
The Javelinas followed up with a match against the Islanders on February 6 as TAMUCC took the win at 7-0.
First serve for the Javelinas and the Vaqueros is set for 1 p.m. CT at the Orville I. Cox Tennis Center in Edinburg.
