Javelina Football Promotional Schedule released

2019 football season features three reunions of past national champions

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The 2019 Texas A&M-Kingsville football promotional schedule has been announced, with three reunions of past Javelina National Champions highlighting the seven games set to take place at Pepsi Field at Javelina Stadium in the fall.

The season opener on September 7 against Saginaw Valley State will be the 60th reunion of the 1959 NAIA National Championship team. The 1959 Hogs started the year with a seven-game winning streak with the legendary Gil Steinke in his sixth season at the helm of the program. The Blue and Gold followed up with a 20-0 shutout of Southwest Texas on November 21 to close the regular season, blanked Hillsdale in the NAIA Semifinals at 20-0 on December 5, and clinched the program's first national championship with a 20-6 victory of Lenior-Rhyne on December 12.

Following up on September 14 will be the Hispanic Heritage Weekend game against Sul Ross State, while the Lone Star Conference home opener against Angelo State on September 21 will be the Hall of Fame & Champions weekend. Tickets are now on sale for the Hall of Fame Banquet set for September 20 at the Memorial Student Union Building and can be purchased online at the following link: HALL OF FAME TICKETS

The Blue and Gold will return from a one-week hiatus to take on Texas A&M-Commerce on October 5 for the annual Family Weekend and Military Appreciation game, followed by Kingsville Community Appreciation Day on October 12 against Western Oregon.

The 50th reunion of the 1969 NAIA National Championship team will take place the same weekend as the homecoming game against Tarleton on October 26. The 1969 Javelinas, now with Steinke in his 16th season, opened the year with a six-game winning streak and won the final three games of the regular season. The team advanced to the NAIA Championship for the second straight year off a 28-23 win over New Mexico Highlands on November 29 and defeated Concordia (Minn.) on December 13 at 32-7 to clinch the program's second national championship

The final home game of 2019 against West Texas A&M on November 9 will feature the annual celebration of the football senior class along with the First Responders Appreciation game, along with the 40th reunion of the 1979 NAIA National Championship team. The 1979 Hogs, under new leadership with Ron Harms in his first year as head coach, sang a familiar tune with a seven-game winning streak to start the regular season and closed the year with a win over Southwest Texas on November 17 at 42-10. The team bested Western State (Colo.) in the NAIA Quarterfinals on December 1 at 38-14 to start the playoff run, defeated LSC foe Angelo State at 22-19 in the semifinals on December 8, and downed Central Oklahoma in the national championship at 20-14 for the program's seventh title.
