No. 34 Javelinas take 5-2 decision over Cameron

TAMUK moves into virtual tie for second in Lone Star Conference standings

Box Score LAWTON, Okla. – The No. 34 Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis program moved into a virtual tie for second place in the Lone Star Conference standings on Friday with a thrilling 5-2 victory over Cameron in league play.

"The conditions were tough with the wind," said head coach Autumn Williams, "but the motivation was high. Everyone played very well from the first match in doubles all the way through singles. I'm glad we were able to play well as a team."

The Javelinas (10-5, 4-1 LSC) swept the doubles portion of play over the Aggies (7-12, 3-2 LSC) and took four of the six singles matchups en route to the decision.

The duo of senior Phonephathep Philavong (Vientiane, Laos) and junior Victoria Romanovskaia (Simferopol, Crimea, Russia) proved to be the decisive match in doubles as they came away with a 6-1 win over Sara Petric and Sarah Frendo to take the point.

Going over to singles, Philavong continued her tear through the conference as she took a straight-set win over Rebeka Velasova behind scores of 6-2 and 6-1 in the second matchup to start the scoring for the Blue and Gold.

Junior Valerie Ruiz (San Antonio, Texas) secured the win for TAMUK at the fifth singles flight as she took a win over Melany Opolz at 6-4, 6-3, for the fourth win in LSC play for the visitors.
