Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis program started off the Lone Star Conference schedule strong on Sunday at the Javelina Tennis Courts with a 7-0 sweep of Western New Mexico to start the league's dual season.
"The ladies were very excited about playing conference matches and it showed," said head coach
Autumn Williams. "Everyone put on a dominant performance and when there was opportunity to show some resilience, they did. Today was a good day."
The Javelinas (7-4, 1-0 LSC) powered through the doubles portion with ease before taking five of six in the singles section in straight sets over the Mustangs (7-12, 0-3 LSC). To see the full results, click

The duo of freshman
Loren Tristan (Corpus Christi, Texas) and sophomore
Laura Montalvo (Cochabamba, Bolivia) struck first for the Blue and Gold as they claimed a perfect 6-0 over Karina Diaz Kolovos and Julia Terrazas in the third tandem.
Senior
Phonephathep Philavong (Vientiane, Laos) and junior
Victoria Romanovskaia (Simferopol, Crimea, Russia) nearly followed suit as they took a 6-1 final over Nicole Gonzalez and Carolina Torrico. While the 20th-ranked duo of redshirt senior
Lisa Carvajal (McAllen, Texas) and newcomer
Maya Donkor (McLean, Va.) provided the final say in the pairings with a 6-3 win over Julia Tozzi and Camilla Gomez.
The singles portion started off similarly with Montalvo going 6-0, 6-0 against Kolovos in the third flight, while juniors
Stephanie Baerman (San Antonio, Texas) and
Julia Rauer (Leiselheim, Germany) added identical 6-0, 6-1, straight-set wins at the sixth and fifth matchup, respectively, to officially secure the decision for the hosts.
Carvajal cruised to a 6-0, 6-4 win over Tozzi at the top pairing, with the former ranked 12th in the region in singles, and Romanovskaia maintained the momentum at 6-2, 6-1 over Torrico in the fourth singles match.
Philavong, ranked ninth in the region in singles play, was the lone Javelina who needed more than two sets to get the job done, as she battled back from a 6-4 loss to Gomez in the first set at the second singles flight for a 7-6 win in the second to force the decisive third.
The Vientiane, Laos, native opened up the super tiebreaker set at 6-0 before the Mustang recorded a point, and cruised to a 10-2 final to keep WNMU off the board.
The Blue and Gold will remain at home for their next three LSC matches, starting with a 2 p.m. CT contest against No. 13 Tarleton on Friday, March 29, at the Javelina Tennis Courts.
