Box Score

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis program finished the trip to Florida on a high note on Saturday at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center, with a hard-fought, 4-3 win over Palm Beach Atlantic to end the road trip on a three-match winning streak.

"This match was the true definition of a team win," said head coach Autumn Williams. "We had to fight hard to win today and the score showed it as PBA did not give up.

"These ladies were reliable and relentless."

The Javelinas (6-4) secured the doubles point over the Sailfish (9-4) after senior Phonephathep Philavong (Vientiane, Laos) teamed up with junior Victoria Romanovskaia (Simferpol, Crimea, Russia) at the third tandem and came away with a 6-3 win over Nicole Reich and Elvira Edstrom.

Junior Valerie Ruiz (San Antonio, Texas) and freshman Loren Tristan (Corpus Christi, Texas) put TAMUK on the brink with a 6-2 decision over Bella Mermersky and Consuela Van Grinsven at the second flight, while PBA took the matchup at the top flight.

The Blue and Gold took the first three matches in the singles portion to secure the team win as sophomore Laura Montalvo (Cochabamba, Bolivia) started the run with a straight-set win over Van Grinsven at the third matchup behind a 6-4, 6-1 decision.

Junior Julia Rauer (Leiselheim, Germany) secured the next point to run her current winning streak to three matches. She bested Reich in the fifth flight in straight sets behind a 6-4, 6-3 final to set TAMUK up with a 3-0 team score.

Redshirt senior Lisa Carvajal (McAllen, Texas) brought the win back home for the Javelinas as she claimed a 7-5, 6-4, straight-set win over Mermerksy at the top flight.

The final three matches in the singles portion went to the Sailfish as TAMUK extended the win streak to three matches with five straight home contests coming up in the next three weeks. To see the full results, click here.
