TAMUK rebounds with 4-0 Shutout over Warhawks

Win over Auburn Montgomery snaps four-match losing streak

Box Score SAN ANTONIO – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis program recorded its third shutout of the season on Tuesday in San Antonio, with a 4-0 victory over Auburn Montgomery to close the trip to the Alamo City.

"These ladies gave a solid performance," said head coach Autumn Williams. "They were very focused and motived. After they won the doubles point they gained confidence and momentum and ran with with."

The Javelinas (4-4) snapped a four-match losing streak with the decision over the Warhawks (3-6), as only one set was dropped prior to the match coming to an end to accommodate travel for both programs.

TAMUK took the doubles point as the top two pairings came away with wins over their foes. The 15th-ranked duo of redshirt senior Lisa Carvajal (McAllen, Texas) and newcomer Maya Donkor (McLean, Va.) took down Sofia Navarro and Julia Enderink at 7-5 to secure the first point of the match.

Junior Valerie Ruiz (San Antonio, Texas) and freshman Loren Tristan (Corpus Christi, Texas) put the Javelinas on the brink with a 6-4 win over Alba De La Torre and Svenja Petri.

In singles play, junior Julia Rauer (Leiselheim, Germany) extended the Blue and Gold lead with a straight-set win over Enderink at 6-1, 6-0, narrowly missing out on another clean sweep of the opposition in the fifth spot.

Carvajal downed Petri in the top singles flight in consecutive sets as well, 6-2, 6-1, while the match was secured via two-set win from sophomore Laura Montalvo (Cochabamba, Bolivia) who bested Navarro in the third matchup. The remaining singles matches, along with the third doubles match, went unfinished.
