Box Score PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Just one set shy of a perfect sweep, the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis program took advantage of the unwarranted two-week rest and turned in the complete team performance for a 7-0 win over future Lone Star Conference foe UT Tyler in a neutral site matchup.
"I'm glad we got to play today after not playing for two weeks," said head coach
Autumn Williams. "Everyone played well and we were focused on having a dominant performance.
"I think we accomplished that goal and I'm very proud of everyone and their efforts."
The Javelinas (3-0) dropped only two points in the double portion of the matchup against the Patriots (1-2) and surrendered the lone set in the sixth singles flight en route to the win.
Senior
Phonephathep Philavong (Vientiane, Laos) paired up with junior
Victoria Romanovskaia (Simferpol, Crimea, Russia) at the second doubles spot and converted a 6-0 win over the UTT duo of Chloe Chawner and Victoria Kniffen.
Despite missing the first weekend of play, redshirt senior
Lisa Carvajal (McAllen, Texas) returned to form and paired up with newcomer
Maya Donkor (McLean, Va.) as the 15th-ranked doubles team in Division-II to take down Anna Gerletti and Lauren Kuhn at 6-0 in the top doubles flight.
Fellow newcomer
Loren Tristan (Corpus Christi, Texas) and junior
Valerie Ruiz (San Antonio, Texas) completed the doubles portion of the matchup as the tandem took over Savannah Seely and Brooke Brewer in the third flight at 6-2 to turn the match over to the singles portion.
Sophomore
Laura Montalvo (Cochabamba, Bolivia) continued her reign of dominance after taking the first LSC Player of the Week honor from the opening weekend and turned in a flawless 6-0, 6-0 straight-set win over Kuhn in the third singles position to open the second half of the match.
Philavong added a straight-set win of her own in the second singles spot at 6-0, 6-3 over Gerletti, while Ruiz secured the team win with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Brewer in the fourth matchup to put the Javelinas ahead 4-0.
Junior
Julia Rauer (Leiselheim, Germany) posted the second perfect singles win of the day at 6-0, 6-0 over Ana Zaidan in the fifth flight to keep up the momentum, before Carvajal took her first singles win of the year at 6-4, 6-4 over Chawner in the top singles flight.
Classmate
Stephanie Baerman (San Antonio, Texas) provided the cherry on top of the Sunday sweep with a three-set win over Caitlyn Cox in the sixth flight. The San Antonio native took the first set at 6-3 before Cox grabbed the second at 6-2.
Baerman ensured the Patriots would not taste a single team point as she compiled a 10-7 final in the tiebreaker set to put the 7-0 final in the Blue and Gold's hands.
