Javelinas host Buffs for Senior Day

Kickoff set for 3 p.m. CT for Military Appreciation Weekend and 1979 NAIA Championship reunion

The Matchup
  • The Javelinas return to Pepsi Field at Javelina Stadium one last time in 2019 as they host West Texas A&M for Senior Day on November 9
  • Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. CT as the game is part of Military Appreciation Weekend and the 40th Reunion of the 1979 NAIA National Championship team
  • The game will broadcast on Nexstar Media Group with David Saltzman and Neil Horn on the call
  • TAMUK fell on the road last year to WT, 35-31, after the Buffs outscored the Hogs 21-7 in the final 17:58 of game time
  • Koy Detmer Jr. threw for 314 yards and three touchdowns in the loss
  • Tyler Wilson caught nine passes for 154 yards, while Aaron Dilworth caught 11 passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns

Scouting the Buffs
  • WT is 6-3 on the year, 3-3 in LSC play, after falling 34-20 to A&M-Commerce last week
  • Nick Gerber is the primary signal-caller with 1649 yards on a 53.9% completion rate along with 13 touchdowns
  • Juwan McCall and Semaj Mitchell are his top two targets as the duo have combined for 53 grabs and 732 yards alongside nine touchdowns
  • Duke Carter IV leads the ground game with 581 yards on 140 carries and five touchdowns
  • Jordan Johnson owns the most rushing touchdowns with seven but has run for only 140 yards
  • Frank Honang leads the defense with 101 tackles, followed by 98 from Hayden Dennis
  • Honang has also forced four fumbles and broken up seven passes
  • Gerred Johnson has the most tackles for loss with 10, while Eric Collins owns 3.5 sacks
  • Dennis, along with Collis, both have nine tackles for loss
  • Tobias Harris, LaDarian Hudson, and Keimone Davis all own two interceptions
  • The WT special teams are struggling as the group is 1-for-7 on field goal attempts
Last Time Out
  • The Javelinas won their first road game in over two years with a 44-30 win over Western New Mexico last week
  • The last road win came on October 14, 2017, at 47-21 over UT Permian Basin
  • Luis Lopez ran for three touchdowns in the win over the Mustangs on 122 yards
  • It was Lopez's second three-touchdown performance of the year as he accomplished the same feat against Sul Ross State on September 14
  • Koy Detmer Jr. added 296 yards on 18 completions along with two touchdowns in the win
  • Darrian Hambrick led the receiving corps with five catches for 119 yards and one touchdown
  • Amos Coleman III and Kason Franklin both had an interception on the game, with Coleman III returning his pick for 15 yards and a touchdown, only the second defensive touchdown of the year for TAMUK
  • The Javelina defense forced four turnovers in the second half to seal the win

Air Traffic Controller
  • Koy Detmer Jr. threw for 450 yards in the loss to No. 4/5 Tarleton, completing 37 passes on 65 attempts and adding three touchdowns
  • The 450 yards are second-most all-time in program history as Abel Gonzalez's record of 457 yards in an NCAA First Round loss on November 17, 2001, against UC Davis stands as the all-time mark for the Javelinas
  • The 65 pass attempts tied the program record originally set by Bryan Ehrlich in a Kanza Bowl loss to Emporia State on November 25, 2012
  • The 37 completions broke the previous school record, also set by Ehrlich in the 2012 Kanza Bowl
  • The Javelinas have thrown for over 400 yards four times, first accomplished by Gonzalez in 2001
  • Ehrlich eclipsed 400 yards twice in 2012, once for 418 yards in the Kanza Bowl, but first did so on September 22 in Kingsville against No. 15 Midwestern State for 415 yards

Defensive Stalwart
  • Tre'Michael Tutt's 22 tackles (12 solo) against ENMU on Sept. 28 set a new program record for most tackles in a game
  • Tutt broke the record of 21 originally set by Robert Soza against Nevada on Sept. 15, 1984, and matched by Chris Hensley against Pittsburg State on Dec. 2, 1995

Gone in a Flash
  • Donte Ross' 48-yard punt return touchdown against ENMU on Sept. 28 was the first punt return touchdown by a Javelina in nearly 10 years
  • The last Hog to return a punt for a score was Corey Robertson on Oct. 31, 2009, against Abilene Christian
  • The last TAMUK special teams touchdown was a 100-yard kickoff return by Jordan Thomas against William Jewell on Nov. 8, 2017
  • Josh Wilson added the second special teams touchdown of the year with a 70-yard return following a blocked field goal against Western Oregon on Oct. 12

Goose Egg
  • TAMUK's 72-0 win over Sul Ross State was the first shutout for head coach Daren Wilkinson since he first took over the program ahead of the 2015 season
  • The last shutout came in the 2010 season, a 21-0 win over A&M-Commerce on Sept. 8
  • It was the 126th shutout in program history and the 10th of Sul Ross State

Lone Star Conference in the National Rankings
  • Three teams from the LSC are ranked after nine weeks in both the AFCA poll and D2Football.com rankings
  • Tarleton jumped up to No. 3 in the AFCA poll but remained at No. 5 in the D2Football.com rankings following a 66-7 win over Midwestern State
  • Angelo State jumped up to No. 18 in the D2Football.com rankings with the 41-21 win over Adams State, but stayed at No. 21 in the AFCA poll
  • A&M-Commerce remained at No. 24 in the AFCA poll but moved up to No. 23 in the D2Football.com rankings with the win over West Texas A&M

Go Big or Go Home
  • The Javelinas have 61 plays over 20 yards, including three of at least 70 yards
  • Lopez's 70-yard touchdown run, along with a 79-yard kick return from Amos Coleman III, both came against Sul Ross State on Sept. 14
  • Josh Wilson added a 70-yard blocked field goal return against Western Oregon on Oct. 12
  • A 63-yard completion from Koy Detmer Jr. to Darrian Hambrick against Western New Mexico on November 2 currently stands as the longest pass play
