KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M University-Kingsville football program released the 2019 schedule on Monday that will feature seven home contests at Javelina Stadium for the Hogs.
In addition, there will be a change to the 2018 schedule as the Javelinas will no longer face Central Washington for the opening game of the upcoming fall season and will instead have a bye for week one. TAMUK will still have six home games in 2018, bringing the two-year total to 13 in Kingsville.
"Javelina Stadium features one of the most engaging and highly-attended game day environments in all of Division-II football," said
D. Scott Gines Ed.D., Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics and Campus Recreation. "We are pleased to present our students and fans with a slate of 13 regular-season home game over the next two seasons.
"Although remote, the potential addition of a seventh home game in 2018 exists and we remain very open to that possibility."
The Blue and Gold will play a 10-game schedule for this upcoming fall season, with six at Javelina Stadium, and will play an 11-game schedule in 2019 with seven at home.
"I'm excited about the 2019 schedule," said head coach
Daren Wilkinson. "We're always going to play one of the best conference schedules in the nation and there isn't a team we can look past in the LSC.
"I'm excited to take on defending national champion Texas A&M-Commerce and to play Midwestern State, who beat Commerce. I can't wait to showcase our ability and talent in front of the home crowd where it's always energizing to us and makes it exciting to play."
The 13 regular-season home games is the most in a two-year period in Javelina football history while the four road contests each year is the fewest.
"With our non-conference games," added Wilkinson, "I'm excited we're playing a traditional power in Saginaw Valley State as they do a good job in the GLIAC, and I'm looking forward to playing a regional opponent in Western Oregon when they come to our place.
"Also eager to see Sul Ross in Kingsville since we have a lot of history back in the day when they competed in the Lone Star Conference. It's great to have 13 games at home over the next two years, especially with the energy Javelina Stadium brings and our guys love running out of the tunnel."
The 2019 season is also significant for three historic Javelina football teams as it represents the 60th reunion of the 1959 NAIA Championship team, the 50th reunion of the NAIA Championship team, and the 40th reunion of the 1979 NAIA Championship team.
