COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Texas A&M University-Kingsville women's tennis program started off its Colorado road trip with a dominating performance over Colorado College on Sunday at the Burghart Tennis Courts with an 8-1 win.
The Javelinas (5-6) took all three doubles matches over the Tigers (3-8) before taking five of the singles matches in straight sets for the team win.
Junior
Phonephathep Philavong and sophomore
Valerie Ruiz best the Tiger duo of Allie Burak and Jenna McDonald in the No. 1 doubles match at 8-6 to set the tone for the remainder of the match.
Sophomore
Victoria Romanovskaia and senior
Viviana Ortiz followed suit with an 8-6 win over Caroline James and Annie Zlevor at the No. 2 doubles, while sophomoreÂ
Stephanie Baerman and freshman
Laura Montalvo completed the doubles matchup sweep at No. 3 with an 8-3 decision over Madison Doerre and Simone Hall.
Sophomore
Julia Rauer was the most efficient Javelina in the singles matches to dispatch her opponent as she set down Zlevor in straight 6-0 sets at the No. 3 singles matchup. Montavo was close behind with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Doerre at No. 4 singles while Philavong turned in a 6-3, 6-0 win over James at No. 2 singles.
Freshman
Mariana Correa had dual 6-2 set wins at the No. 5 singles over Hall, while Romanovskaia bested McDonald at the top singles matchup with a straight-set win at 6-1, 6-3 to complete TAMUK's look on the day.
Senior
Martina Urrutia was locked in a close battle with Morgan Smith at the No. 6 singles matchup as Smith took the first set at 6-4 before Urrutia responded with a 6-1 win in the second set.
Urrutia was unable to complete the comeback, unfortunately, as the Tiger took the third set at 10-4.
The Javelinas will remain in Colorado with a match just up the road in Denver against the Metropolitan State University of Denver at the Regency Athletic Complex on Tuesday, March 13, starting at 4 p.m. CT.
