WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Tennis) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (6-4, 1-0 LSC) was edged by Palm Beach Atlantic University (7-6, 1-2 SSC), 5-4 on Wednesday at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.
The Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic was true to its identity by slashing the doubles portion of the match for a quick 3-0 lead.Â
Lisa Carvajal dropped the first singles flight to Valerie Nagovitcina 6-1, 6-1, but Texas A&M-Kingsville fought back as Valerie Ruiz took flight No. 3 in straight sets over Taylor Conti 6-3, 6-3 and Julia Rauer won her third straight match with a dominating 6-0, 6-3 win in singles flight No. 4, trimming the overall deficit 4-2. PBA sealed the win in No. 5 with Michaela Mignemi defeating Viviana Ortiz 6-4, 6-4. Stephanie Baerman won her fifth match of the spring in a competitive tie-breaking match against Maja Jovic (1-6, 7-6, (7-4), 10-7) in flight six and Victoria Romanovskaia won her third consecutive match as well with an 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) win over Leoni Polzin.
The Javelinas will have a day off before playing their fourth national ranked team in five matches—No. 33 Florida Southern— Friday, March 17th at 2 p.m. CT at Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
