SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Tennis) – Despite the score, Texas A&M University-Kingsville (1-1) fell for the first time this season in a tight 7-2 match against Northeastern State University (3-1) at the Rohrbach Tennis Complex on Thursday morning.Â
The Riverhawks edged the Hogs in all three doubles matches to began with a comfortable lead before moving into singles play. #12 Valerie Ruiz (2-0) won singles No. 3 in straight sets (6-3, 7-5) against Caitlin McCullough. Vivian Ortiz followed suit in singles No. 4 as she rallied back after a 4-6 loss in the first set and took the next two sets 7-5 and 10-4, capturing her first win of the season.
The Javelinas will head back to Kingsville, Texas to prepare for their dual match against Dallas Baptist University.
