GAME 35: Baseball Looks to Rattle Nationally-Ranked St. Mary’s

Texas A&M-Kingsville ranked No. 5 in the South Central Region and St. Mary’s sit at No. 3

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Baseball) –
#RV Texas A&M University-Kingsville (20-14) steps away from Lone Star Conference action to take on South Central Region opponent and 13th-ranked St. Mary's University (25-7) on April 7 at 6 p.m. at Dickson Stadium.

Scouting the Rattlers
The Rattlers are 16-2 at home, making Dickson Stadium one of the hardest places to upset St. Mary's. Brooks Orton is hitting an astonishing .403 with 16 extra-base hits and 31 RBI and four other players are over the .300 plateau. Leading the team with four home runs is Bryce Brandl (.338, 15 RBI). The Rattlers are atop the Heartland Conference with a 13-2 mark but StMU is 1-3 versus LSC programs.

In his 29th season at the helm of the baseball program is Charlie Migl, who has amassed a 1,074-478-1 mark in San Antonio.

Brayton Carlson leads the Javelinas in batting average (.338) and the center fielder is a perfect 6-for-6 on the bags. Clint Wallace, Cline Andrews and Hayden Vesely are also batting .300-plus.

Ryan Scott has lowered his earned run average to 2.66 after 12 consecutive scoreless innings and the senior has seven saves this season. He is just three saves shy of tying Jeremy Flores for the all-time saves mark in Javelina history. Weston Silverberg is 2-0 on the year with a 1.66 ERA and he has 29 strikeouts in 21.2 innings.

They Strike First
Texas A&M-Kingsville is one of the best teams in the nation in getting off to a quick start, having outscored its opponents, 37-to-17 in the first inning.

Inside the Series
The Javelinas swept the home-and-home series last season, defeating No. 3 StMU at its place, 12-3, on March 11 and 10-4 at home. In 2013, the Hogs upset the No. 5 Rattlers, 9-7, on Feb. 12. However, St. Mary's holds the edge in the all-time series, 47-24-1.
