GAME 10: Road to Fifth Place Begins in Stephenville

STEPHENVILLE, Texas (Football) –
Texas A&M University-Kingsville (1-8) enters the second year of the Lone Star Conference Playoffs as the No. 7 seed when the Javelinas head to Memorial Stadium to take on sixth-seeded Tarleton State University (2-6) on Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.

The winner of this game will head to fifth-seeded West Texas A&M University on Nov. 14 and the loser will host Oklahoma Panhandle State University on the same date.

Career Night for Pitre
Junior running back Greg Pitre put together a career night at Midwestern State in helping lead Texas A&M-Kingsville to a near upset of the then 14th-ranked Mustangs. He caught a career-high eight passes totaling 175 yards and two touchdowns, both also career bests. On the ground, Pitre ran the ball 21 times, the most ever in a game for him, for 76 yards. His all-purpose yardage total of 251 was also a career-high for him.

LSC Playoffs
Texas A&M-Kingsville opens the consolation bracket at Tarleton State on Saturday. The Javelinas are the seventh seed while the Texans are the sixth. The winner of the game will then travel to West Texas A&M on Nov. 14 to play in the fifth place game. Whoever losses the contest hosts Oklahoma Panhandle State that same day. The Aggies and Buffaloes play each other Saturday.

Last season, the Javelinas defeated McMurry University in the second round of the LSC playoffs under then interim head coach and current running backs and full backs coach Jaime Martinez.

1K Career Receiving Yards
Jordan Thomas reached 1,000 career receivinig yards with his final catch against Tarleton State, a 13 yarder on 4th & 5 on the final drive. After a 132-yard performance at Midwestern State, he is now just 68 yards away from tying Brent Holmes (2000-03) for 20th on the school's career list.

First-Year Wins
The low for victories by a first-year Texas A&M-Kingsville head coach is two, occurring twice. The first was in 1946 by Dewey Mayhew while the second came was in 2013 under David Calloway. Two chances remain this season for the Javelinas to either tie or surpass two victories.

Career Record Watch: Receptions
Currently, Jordan Thomas has 77 career receptions and is one away from 20th on the Javelinas' career list. Charles Thompson (1993-95) sits in 20th place on the list and just ahead of him with 80 catches are Gary Lusk (2001-02) and Brent Holmes (2000-03).

Season Record Watch: Receiving Yards
Thomas has nearly cracked the top 20 for receiving yards in a season by a TAMUK player. Heading into the 10th game of the year, he has 672 yards. His total is 15 shy of matching Eldridge Small (1971) for 20th. Thomas can move all the way to 12th with a 100-yard performance against the Texans.

Record Watch: TD Passes
Myles Carr threw a touchdown pass at Midwestern State to give him 14 for the season. The total ties him for 13th on the school's seasons list with Karl Douglas (1989) and Randy Johnson (1964). Abel Gonzalez holds the TAMUK record with 24 in the 2001 season.

On the career list, Carr matched Chris Soza's (1981-84) total for 17th. Karl Douglas (1967-70) is the Hogs' all-time leader with 54 touchdown passes.

Record Watch: Passing Yards
Myles Carr heads to Tarleton State with 1,855 passing yards this season. His total places him 12th on the season list, moving ahead of five players at MSU. Next on the list is Oktay Basci's 1995 total of 1,876 and then Mark James' 1,881 from the 1982 season. Billy Garza set the Javelina record in 2008 with 2,787 yards through the air.

With his passing yards total, Carr moved past Jeremy Heatley (2006) for 18th on the Hogs' career list. The next target for Carr is Elvis Hartsfield's (1975-78) total of 2,033. Karl Douglas threw for a TAMUK record 5,996 yards in his career from 1967-70.

Record Watch: Pass Completions
Myles Carr jumped from 15th into a tie for 11th with Oktay Basci (1995) on the Hogs' season pass completions list at Midwestern State. For the season, Carr has completed 128 passes. Nate Poppell holds the record with 237 set in 2010.

Carr's total also ranks 19th on the school's career list. He surpassed fellow teammate Trey Mitchell in the near upset of the Mustangs. Next on the list is Jarrell Hayes (1958-61) with 131, followed by Elvis Hartsfield (1975-78). Poppell is also the program's career leader with 490 in his four-year career.

Robinson's TFLs
Sophomore defensive end Braedon Robinson is closing in the Javelinas' top 20 tackles for losses list. He currently has 17.5 in his career after recording one TFL at Midwestern State. With another half a tackle for loss, Robinson would tie five former Blue and Gold players for 19th on the career list.

Homecoming Record
Texas A&M-Kingsville fell to 64-16-1 all-time when playing on their homecoming after the 24-14 defeat to West Texas A&M. The Javelinas are now 6-2 against the Buffaloes on homecoming. The first homecoming game took place in 1931, a 48-7 victory over Stephen F. Austin. Three of the past four years have been unkind to the Hogs as they fell on the special date. Last year the Javelinas lost 57-31 to Angelo State. TAMUK's last homecoming victory came in 2012 against the Rams by the score of 34-21.

Back-to-Back Heartbreakers
For the second straight game, Texas A&M-Kingsville fell in the final seconds after Angelo State scored a touchdown with 11 seconds remaining on the clock. The Javelinas had a chance to be on the opposite end a week prior against Tarleton State. However, a bad snap with four seconds remaining at the 1-yard line doomed the Hogs.

Mitchell's Attempts
Senior quarterback Trey Mitchell entered the season 21st on Texas A&M-Kingsville's career pass attempts list with 224. Following eight at Angelo State, he is six shy of tying James Guidry (1985-87) and needs 68 to become the 18th Javelina ever with 300 career completions. The program record is 819 by Nate Poppell (2008-12).

Amazing Autry
Anthony Autry had a fantastic game at Eastern New Mexico despite catching just four passes. The Atlanta, Georgia native totaled a career-high 184 receiving yards and a touchdown in the lightning delayed game. He finished with a long of 61 yards and hauled in throws of 44, 41 and 38 yards as well. His total ranks third in a single game in the Hogs' history and the most since Lusk set the school mark with 212 at Texas A&M-Commerce on Oct. 12, 2002.

De la Garza's Long boot
In the second quarter at Eastern New Mexico, freshman kicker Julio De la Garza let loss on a field goal attempt from 49 yards out. The make was the longest by a Javelina kicker since Matt Stoll nailed a 51-yarder on Nov. 16, 2013 against Valdosta State at home.

Consecutive 300+ Passing Games
Myles Carr recorded his second straight 300-plus yard passing game at Eastern New Mexico with a 309-yard performance to become the first Texas A&M-Kingsville quarterback to do so since the 2011 season. That year saw Daniel Ramirez post three consecutive 300 yards or more passing contests starting against Lindenwood on Oct. 8 (373 yds) and continuing at Incarnate Word (373) and against Tarleton State (339).

3rd Down Improvement
The Javelinas have struggled for most of the season converting third downs. Prior to playing at Eastern New Mexico, they were successful just 18 of 62 times (29.0%). Against the Greyhounds, TAMUK was 10-for-16 (62.5%) and improved their season percentage to 38.9%.

Five third down conversions were the previous high for the Blue and Gold, accomplishing the feat twice (Incarnate Word and West Alabama) The other two games had seen the Hogs convert on third down four times each.

Red Zone Success at ENMU
Following the contest at Eastern New Mexico, Texas A&M-Kingsville is 12-for-16 when they enter the red zone. Nine of the scores have been touchdowns with three coming against the Greyhounds. The previous high for red zone touchdowns in a game was two in the season opener at Incarnate Word.

Career Night for Carr
Against West Alabama, Myles Carr had a career game throwing the ball. He set career bests in pass attempts (47), completions (25), yards (342) and touchdown passes (3). With his 300-yard passing game, Carr became the first Javelina since Carl Bedford reached the mark on Nov. 2, 2013 against Tarleton State.

Special Team Woes
This season has been tough on the Javelinas' special team units. Two field goals, two punts and a point after attempt have been blocked by opponents. TAMUK has also allowed opponents to return three kicks for touchdowns, two coming on kickoffs by West Alabama.

Thomas' Goes Wild on Lions
Sophomore wide receiver Jordan Thomas put up a career night against No. 22/22 A&M-Commerce. In front of 7,336 fans, he set career highs with eight catches and 173 yards receiving. The San Antonio native posted the most receiving yards by a Javelina receiver since Robert Armstrong has 166 against Valdosta State in the 2013 season finale. Thomas pulled in two deep passes for 53 and 51 yards to set the Hogs up inside the 10.

Big Man Punts
Listed as a 6-foot, 4-inch defensive lineman, Sione Tupouata lined up three times as the punter versus No. 22/22 A&M-Commerce. He ended up averaging 31.0 yards a punt with a long of 36 yards. All three of his kicks ended with the Lions returner calling for a fair catch.

Throw It Up To Autry
Junior wide receiver Anthony Autry had a big game receiving in only his second as a Javelina. He caught six passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns. He became the first Blue and Gold receiver to record a 100-plus yard receiving game since Robert Armstrong in the 2013 season finale against Valdosta State (Nov. 16, 2013).

Vasquez Runs Wild
Shawn Vasquez recorded his second career 100-yard running game in a TAMUK uniform against Missouri S&T. He ran for a career-high 116 yards and scored twice, including a 66-yard run on the Javelinas first offense play. His previous career best was 107 at West Texas A&M last season.

SAFETY!
The first points of the 2015 season for the Blue and Gold was a safety when Incarnate Word snapped the ball over their punter's head in the second quarter. The two-point play was the first for TAMUK since Nov. 10, 2007 against Angelo State. Coincidentally, that safety also came when a punt was snapped out of the end zone.

Opening Drive
Texas A&M University-Kingsville (1-8, 0-6 LSC) hits the road for the first round of the Lone Star Conference Playoffs in the consolation bracket. The Javelins will face Tarleton State (2-6, 1-5 LSC) in Stephenville, Texas. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. in Memorial Stadium.

Jefferson in Seattle
Javelina Hall of Famer and defensive backs coach James Jefferson spent part of the summer interning with the Seattle Seahawks during their preseason training camp. He played five seasons (1989-93) with the Seahawks. A highlight from his time in the Northwest was setting the team record with a 97-yard kickoff return in his first season with the squad.
