Javelinas Drops Game 1 to Tarleton, 8-3

Box Score STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team dropped the first game of 3-game series to Tarleton with a score of 8-3 on Friday.

The Javelinas move to 33-15, overall and 23-13 in conference while Tarleton improves to 25-21, overall and 15-17 in conference.
 
The Texans were the first to get on the board when Rustin Thomas reached on an error, stole second, and scored on an error, 1-0.
 
Kingsville would answer back with a run at the top of the second inning when Justin Lee drove in Brian Frazier after he singled to left field. Frazier singled to reach first and advanced to second on a Clint Wallace single, 1-1.
 
Tarleton answered with another run in the bottom of the second inning as Dalton Weeks came in after Evan Robinson singled to left field, 2-1. Weeks reached after he walked to first and stole second.
 
The fifth inning proved to be the defining inning for both teams as the Javelinas scored two runs in the top and the Texans scored six in the bottom.
 
Kingsville's first run of the fifth inning came as Matt Perez scored on a Frazier single. Perez walked to first, advanced to second on Taylor Taska's single through the left side and advanced to third on a wild pitch. The second run was scored when Taska crossed home place after a fielder's choice on Clint Wallace with Frazier out at third, 3-2.
 
Tarleton's 6-run explosion in the fifth inning started with Luke Slentz hit a home run, 3-3. Kevin Meredith scored as Alvaro Moreno singled up the middle, 4-3. Meredith doubled to reach second and advanced to third on a bunt by Robinson. Robinson scored on a passed ball, 5-3.
 
Moreno scored the third run of the fifth when he was driven in by Thomas's double to left center field, 6-3.  Moreno reached first with a single, advanced to second after Jared Musgrove walked, 7-3.  Thomas came across home plate for the last run of the game when Garrett Kilgore hit a sacrifice fly to center field, 8-3.
 
Dallas Ponder (7-2) suffered the loss for the Javelinas as he pitched four innings with seven runs with five earned on five hits.
 
Troyal Yosko (2-2) picked up the win for the Tarleton as pitched one innings with no runs with none earned on one hit.
 
Kingsville closes out the series and regular season play on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
